Phnom Penh: Taste of the Middle East

Taste of the Middle East, Phnom Penh Guide

Taste of the Middle East is one of two Iraqi-owned restaurants in Phnom Penh (Taste of the Middle East 2 is located further south on Street 446). The food is halal and it is tasty and filling. This is the place to go for flatbreads, mezze, falafel and chicken. Mains starts at $6-$8, and there are many vegan/vegetarian options available. We are curious about the Iraqi chocolate cake, which is on the menu, but never available. If you manage to order the chocolate cake, please let us know how it is:)

Copenhagen Cafes: Ipsen & Co

Ipsen & Co, Copenhagen Cafes, Copenhagen Guide

Cozy cafe with really good coffee at the very best stretch of Gl. Kongevej. The food is made in-house from organic, locally sourced ingredients and the cafe works actively on sustainability and on reducing waste. The inviting atmosphere makes you want to hang around for hours, and it often gets crowded as Ipsen & Co. is very popular among locals.

What to order? The Morgenbræt (breakfast platter) has everything you want for breakfast. For lunch, try the Kartoffelmad, a Danish open-face sandwich with potatoes and mayonnaise.

Good for: Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon coffee

Ipsen & Co., Gl. Kongevej 108, 1850 Frederiksberg, Hours: 8am-6pm

Copenhagen Restaurants: Høst

Höst, Copenhagen Restaurant Guide

Modern Nordic restaurant in beautiful settings. Great for those who wants to experience modern Nordic cuisine but without the Noma price tag. Høst is part of the Cofoco (Copenhagen Food Collective) group known for monthly set menus at a fixed price. The concept is very similar to the one at the sister restaurant Vækst, so if Høst is fully booked, try calling Vækst for a table (and vice versa).

The Høst menu (3 courses) is 395DKK (June, 2021), and there is also a vegetarian set menu available at the same price. You can also order a la carte, but the set menu is a really good deal.

Copenhagen Restaurants: Vækst

Vækst, Copenhagen restaurants

Nordic restaurant with a menu heavy influenced by seasonal herbs and vegetables. Vækst is part of the Cofoco (Copenhagen Food Collective) group of restaurants, known for monthly set menus at a reasonable price. You can choose between vegetarian or non-vegetarian, and have the option of different substitutions such as cheese instead of dessert and beef tenderloin instead of the set menu main course. You can also order a la carte, but the set menu is by far the best deal. If you get the set menu expect complimentary surprise dishes and amuse bouches during the evening.

NYC: Jeju Noodle Bar

Jeju Noodle Bar, NYC restaurant Guide

Trendy Korean noodle bar in West Village. Korean noodles, ramyun, is the Korean equivalent to Japanese ramen, and Koreans love their noodles just as much as the Japanese do, so it is in fact strange that there are not more Korean noodle restaurants around. In addition to noodles, the restaurant also serves a selection of modern Korean dishes as well as hwe, the Korean version of sashimi. Before covid, Jeju Noodle Bar did not take reservations, but these days, you will need a reservation to dine in. It’s a popular spot, so make sure you book well in advance.

What to order? Since it is a noodle bar, it would be silly not to order one of the noodle bowls. Add 1-2 appetizers to make sure you do not leave hungry.

Good for: Late dinner with foodie friends before a night out.
